Brenda is interested in your help. She's writing a book about abortion and she's looking for people's stories. Here's her story, why she's not pro-choice any more. Below is her request for your story. If you're interested, look at her website (which is where these two blurbs came from) or e-mail her directly. Contact information is at the bottom of this screen.
As a registered nurse licensed in the State of Ohio, I had seen a lot of death -- auto accidents, gunshot wounds, etc. However, in all my twenty years as an RN, I had never witnessed anything like I did on September 28-30, 1993. I was employed by Kimberly Quality Care, a nursing agency in Dayton, Ohio, and I was asked to accept an assignment at the Womens Medical Center in Dayton. Because I considered myself "very pro-choice" I readily accepted the assignment. What I saw over the next few days is branded forever on my mind. On the first day, I assisted in some first-trimester abortions. One that I recall was a 15-year old girl who was having her third abortion. On the second day, I assisted in a second trimester abortion that is called a D & E (dilation and evacuation). Also on the first two days we inserted laminaria to dilate the cervixes of women who were being prepared for the partial-birth-abortions -- those who were past the 20-week point in their pregnancy. On the third day, I was on hand for three partial-birth procedures. I recall one procedure in particular, the mother was six months pregnant, and the babys heartbeat was clearly visible on the ultrasound screen. The doctor went in with forceps and grabbed the babys legs and pulled them down into the birth canal. Then he delivered the babys body and the arms--everything but the head. The babys little fingers were clasping and his feet were kicking. Then the doctor stuck scissors through the back of his head, and the babys arms jerked out in a flinch, a startled reaction, like a baby does when he thinks that he might fall. The doctor opened up the scissors creating a hole at the base of the skull. He then stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening and suctioned the babys brains out. Now the baby was completely limp. I remember the babys face as being the most perfect, angelic face I had ever seen. |
My purpose for establishing [the] website is to educate the public about abortion and the effect it has had on this country. I am writing a book titled, What The Nurse Saw and Heard. I will be telling the world what I saw at the abortion clinic, and the many stories that I have heard from people like you. As I have traveled the country, I have had many people approach me to tell me their stories, many of which brought me to tears. I often thought, If people could only hear these personal accounts, it would make such a difference about abortion in this country. I hope the book serves as an educational tool to the public as well as a healing process for others. The biggest reward of all is if someone decides not to have an abortion after reading the book. Abortion rates are dropping in this country for the first time since 1973. Individuals are finally starting to open their eyes, and for the first time ever people are being educated as to the facts of abortion. Let us get the TRUTH out to people so that they can make a truly informed decision. Please tell me your story so that it can be shared with the world. I have discovered in the time that I have been involved with the abortion issue, that one person can truly make a difference. |
