 “Pollywood” and “Gloria Stories
Two subtle pro-life views

Spoiler alert:  Since there’s really no high suspense in either of these books, there’s nothing to give away.  So just enjoy the gentle humor.

There are two books that you might like to know about.  You won’t see them on the best-seller lists, but each is remarkable in its own way.  And for both, there’s a pro-life ethical orientation that is never stated specifically.

Gloria Stories”  Gloria was a child who was born with Down Syndrome in 1932.  Gloria died a few years ago and the book was written to chronicle the contributions Gloria made to the family.

In days when people abort unborn babies who are not perfect, “Gloria Stories” stands out as a testimony to the value of each and every person.  Gloria would never be able to live independently, but her personality and participation in the family enabled each member to know things they would not otherwise know and to grow in their understanding of how very wide God’s universe is.  As her sister pointed out, Gloria brought out the best in everybody.  On their 50th wedding anniversary, Gloria’s parents called her the “biggest blessing” to the family.

The author of “Gloria Stories” chooses to remain anonymous.  Even her name is not listed in the book as the author, because she wants it all to be about Gloria.  She has had printed many copies of this little book and is sending them out to pro-life organizations, organizations that work with the handicapped (especially those that specialize in Downs’ Syndrome), and doctors that she thinks might be open to her message.

The author doesn’t have a website at this point, so if you think you would be interested in a copy of “Gloria Stories,” e-mail us (Rochester Area Right to Life) at this website and we will pass your request along.  We will need a complete street address in order for the author to fill your request.

“Pollywood,” a novel by Mackenzie Lowry, was written starting when Mackenzie was ten years old and finished when she was 12.  It’s the story of Polly, and it starts when Polly was born.  Polly’s story continues through teen years and an unplanned pregnancy to her adulthood and realizing what she is on earth to do.  It’s clearly a story written by a pre-teen and it is funny and charming.  Your pre-teen might really enjoy it.  But sneak a read yourself before you give the book away, because you’ll probably enjoy it, too.

It is hardcover, 154 pages of fast reading, available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders.  It’s also available through Mackenzie’s website www.MackenzieLowry.webs.com  where she invites members to join her. She says 15% of the profits of her book are donated to a charity, which will not be hard for you to understand after you read her book.
