Catholic Bishop of Buffalo Criticizes NY Atty General Attacking CPCs

Bishop Henry J. Mansell of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo says that State Attorney General Eliot L. Spitzer is harassing and intimidating pro-life clinics. During the homily of a Mass recently the bishop wondered if Spitzer would make any effort to do similar investigations of abortion facilities.

Spitzer spokesman Darren Dopp said that Spitzer would not.

Spitzer has subpoenaed the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Buffalo, which is partly supported by the Diocese of Buffalo. The pregnancy center has been in operation for 17 years. It is listed under "Abortion Alternatives" in the Yellow Pages.

The Buffalo News quoted one of the volunteers at the Buffalo center as saying, "We tell callers right from the beginning that we do not do abortions and that we do not refer anyone for abortions."
