Oratorical Contest winner from Rochester area
Brian Donohue, son of Pat and Kathleen Donohue of Rochester, won the New York State Right to Life Oratorical Contest in Albany in May. Competing against students from RTL groups across the state, Brian’s topic was stem cell research. He gave a well researched, stirring presentation on the impressive accomplishments of adult stem cell research and the ethical problems of embryonic stem cell research. He said, “Simply put, there is no reason in the world to continue destroying embryos in the name of science, and there is every reason to want this research stopped immediately.”
Donohue, 16 years old, is a home schooled high school junior. He goes to the March for Life in Washington, D.C., every year and is interested in Catholicism, reading, writing, music, bike riding and debating. After completing his high school program, Brian plans to attend the Franciscan University in Steubenville to major in Philosophy and Theology. Congratulations to Brian, his parents and family. Brian’s complete speech is on the RARTL website or call the office to have a copy sent by mail.
His win at the state level entitled him to compete at the National Oratorical Contest held at the National Right to Life Convention in Kansas City. June 14 - 17. NYS Right to Life and Rochester Area Right to Life Committees cheer Brian, among the youngest participants, for being a semi-finalist in the contest in Kansas.
Read the complete speech for all the telling details.
