NYSRTL Political Committee endorses John Faso for Governor

Barbara Meara, Political Committee Director wrote that John Faso, former Assembly Minority Leader and the Republican/Conservative candidate for Governor, is pro-life, and will work to save as many children as possible from abortion in New York.  He believes that Roe v. Wade is bad law.  Roe’s results have been devastating, and especially in New York, which Mr. Faso recognizes has the “dubious title of being the abortion capital of the nation.”

If elected, John Faso promises to “fight for” 3 important pro-life issues:  First, he will propose legislation to ensure parental involvement before a minor can obtain an abortion.  Second, he has committed to work to end partial-birth abortions in NY State.  Third, John Faso has vowed to keep taxpayer funds from paying for abortions by removing abortion funding from his Executive budgets.  New York State currently has an out-of-control Medicaid system which effectively funds abortion-on-demand with our tax money.  Mr. Faso will work to put an end to Medicaid funding for approximately 47,000 abortions a year.

Also critically important in our state, John Faso supports President Bush's policy on stem cell research.  While believing in the value and need for “cutting-edge medical research,” Mr. Faso understands scientific advances should not come at the expense of human life.  Mr. Faso says, “Quite simply, as a society, we should not create life and then destroy it, merely to advance science.”  Mr. Faso opposes embryonic stem cell research and any funding for it, while supporting morally acceptable and successful adult stem cell research and therapy.

Finally, John Faso supports amendments proposed by NYSRTL to the Family Health Care Decisions Act (FHCDA).  He is “greatly concerned” that the current FHCDA “would allow unauthorized physicians, hospital workers or other non-family members to make end-of-life decisions for patients.”  NYSRTL’s proposed amendments will protect patients and families from having treatment denied against their wills because a doctor or hospital does not approve of the patient's quality of life.

John Faso's opponent, Eliot Spitzer, is in favor of partial-birth abortion.  He has vowed, if elected, to amend our state's laws to assure that the right to abortion, i.e. abortion-on-demand, is set in stone in the law should Roe v. Wade be overturned in the future.  Mr. Spitzer boldly wears his endorsement by NARAL Pro-Choice New York.  He set up a "Reproductive Rights" unit within the Attorney General's office after being elected and engaged in a vigorous campaign against pro-life pregnancy care centers around NY State in 2000, including a center in Victor.  The investigations were finally ended under pressure.  Mr. Spitzer has also proposed a state bond for $1 billion to fund embryo-destructive research with our taxes.

It is critical that we all get out to work to help elect pro-life candidate John Faso and cast votes in his favor on Election Day.  The future of our state's children depends on it.  This advertisement has been paid for by Rochester Area Right to Life Committee, Inc. Political Action Committee.  It is not authorized by any candidate.  For questions, call NYSRTL PAC and Political Committee Director:  Barbara Meara: 718-434-1293
